Is a “duplex for rent” a small business office solution?
It’s certainly worth consideration for home-based businesses, those of you who work from home, which have outgrown the living space and needs extra space for an office and storage space . . . but . . .
There is a problem using a duplex to solve your small business office problems, and we are going to tell you what that problem is and what the solution is.
The problem with this plan, and we’ve seen it used many times in many cities, is that it is tacky!
Can we be more blunt?
Tacky, as in whacky, as in don’t even entertain this thought for a split-second! Why?
A successful business is one part product/service, and one part image. You can have the greatest product/service in the world, but if your marketing image is sub-standard, chances are excellent you are going to fail. What does it say about your business if it is located in a home in a residential neighborhood? It says small-class, is what it says, and we don’t know a businessperson in the world that wants “small-class” associated with his/her business.
Sure, a home business is, by definition, based in one’s home, but once you have outgrown the home, and it is at the point of no longer being a home business, it needs to be in a commercial/retail building. It’s all about image. You may be able to accomplish everything you need to accomplish from a duplex, but it sure won’t say what you want it to say about your business.
So the solution to this image problem is obvious: for the cost of renting a duplex, go find an inexpensive office/commercial space.
Problem solved!
And the naysayers instantly say that finding an inexpensive office/commercial space is like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack, and we grant you, under normal circumstances that would be true, but there is a revolution under way in the construction business, and that revolution is the shipping container revolution.
Again, problem solved!
Container buildings are revolutionary and practical. Because they do not require construction costs, they are inexpensive. Because they do not require additional lumber for framing, they are eco-friendly. And because they can be used for so many different business scenarios, they are flexible and the perfect solution for small business owners.
Do we have you at least curious? One such container solution can be found at Box Office Warehouse Suites in Fort Worth, Texas. There you will find units starting at 320 square feet in size, perfect for a small office for a small business. There you will find units starting at $875 per month, again perfect for the small business owner. There you will find an entire business park made from shipping containers, funky, quirky, individualistic, and one-of-a-kind commercial spaces designed in your image and likeness.
This is not an advertisement for the future. It’s happening now, in the Alliance commercial real estate area of North Fort Worth, the first and only business park in that area made entirely from shipping containers, and it is the wave of the future.
Commercial property for rent with attitude! Ride the wave or risk drowning in a duplex!
