We have written other articles about this topic, namely looking for a townhouse for rent for your small business. That’s how strongly we feel in opposition to this idea.
We have a better idea!
Listen, we salute you for starting a home business. In the early stages there is absolutely nothing wrong with that “work from home” scenario. Most business people who are just starting out cannot afford to have a separate workplace, and so they create in their garage, and they make an office out of a spare bedroom, and they just make it all work out of necessity.
But now your home business is doing well, so we that you are considering looking for a townhouse for rent, the old “live downstairs and work upstairs” idea, and we are here to tell you it is all nonsense.
We have a better idea!
And you scream at us “WHAT’S WRONG WITH WORKING FROM HOME?” And we smile and explain that your home is not a suitable place from which to conduct business. Picture this: a big customer wants to have a meeting at your business, and shortly after he comes into your home your dog poops on the carpet.
What does that say about your business? That example may be a bit extreme, but not by much.
You need to separate your home and business. Two separate buildings, please, and the sooner the better.
“BUT I CAN’T AFFORD TO RENT A HOME AND COMMERCIAL SPACE!” The commercial suite dilemma! And to that we smile and say “nonsense!”
If the success of your business is important to you, then you’ll find a way to make it happen. Studio apartments are relatively inexpensive, certainly less expensive than a townhouse, and combine the rental of a studio with the rental of a small commercial space, and you probably still won’t equal what you would have paid for that townhouse.
And you’ll have two separate entities, thus separating your personal life from your business life.
Problem solved!
That’s all well and good, you say, but what does it look like in real life?
One such example can be found in the north Fort Worth area, in Texas, in the fastest growing commercial spot in the state, the Alliance commercial real estate area. The place we are referring to is called Box Office Warehouse Suites, and it is the perfect answer for any home-business owner looking for a small commercial space for their growing business.
Box Office Warehouse Suites is the first, and only, business park in North Fort Worth made entirely from shipping containers. It is inexpensive, centrally-located, did we mention inexpensive? Eco-friendly, funky, quirky, and run by one of the most successful businessmen in the Fort Worth area, Ron Sturgeon.
At Box Office Warehouse Suites you can afford a small office AND a living space, two separate entities, the kind of operation your growing business deserves.
If you don’t live in the Fort Worth area, look around and see if a similar business park exists where you live. The shipping container revolution just might be the solution to your problems It certainly is for business people in the Fort Worth area now that Box Office Warehouse Suites has opened.
